Teacher Requirements
- Currently employed as a teacher in grades 6-12 (primary consideration will be given to teachers in grades 6-8) returning to the classroom for the 2011-2012 school year.
- Commit to 6 weeks of employment from June 20 to July 28, 2011. It is not possible to undertake other summer workshops or teaching responsibilities during this time.
- Attend an orientation workshop, mid-summer teleconference and end-of-summer Teacher Quest recognition luncheon.
- Complete and execute an Action Plan (summary of work experience and a unit of study or lesson plan).
- Give a brief presentation of your Action Plan at a Teacher Quest recognition luncheon.
- Complete an Implementation Report (self-assessment), pre- and post-employment surveys, and an end-of-program questionnaire.
- Submit student work samples (report, multimedia presentation, photos, etc.).
Application Processing
- A teacher may apply for an employment opportunity two consecutive years; however priority may be given to a first-year teacher.
- Teachers may apply for more than one position.
- Applications will be evaluated based upon the teacher’s educational background and instructional goals and the requirements of the employment opportunity.
- Companies may conduct phone interviews with teachers to further assess eligibility and compatibility with the program.
- Applications that best fit the company’s employment description are selected and sent to the company for review.
- Interviews with the selected teachers will be conducted by the company via phone or in person.
- Final employment selection will be made by the company.
- TRDA will notify the applicant of his or her hiring status.
- Some employment opportunities require drug-screening and/or background checks.
Other Important Items
- Teachers are employed through TRDA as part-time, temporary staff and will receive a TRDA employee handbook.
- Teachers selected to participate in the program must provide required documents for employment (I-9, W-4, 2 forms of ID, copy of Florida teaching certificate, employee direct deposit authorization form, new employee profile form, and receipt of TRDA handbook).
- Teachers are eligible to receive in-service credit for their work experience from their school district.
- Companies may provide follow-up activities such as field trips to the workplace or speaking to students about careers.
