The Endeavour Academy Supports Brevard Space Week

More than 5500 Brevard County sixth graders and 550 teachers and chaperones will experience the past, present and future of America’s space program this November 17-21 at the first-ever Brevard Space Week.
The Technological Research and Development Authority’s The Endeavour Academy, a teacher professional development organization, has provided funding for Space Week’s follow-up training sessions and also a curriculum supply kit.
Along with the The Endeavour Academy, Brevard County Schools and the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex, the Florida Chapter of the National Space Club, NASA KSC Education Department, Boeing, Delaware North Parks Resorts and others, are also sponsors in giving every Brevard sixth-grader the opportunity to take part in a daylong educational, fun and event-packed field trip to the Kennedy Space Center.
The mutual goal of the partnership is to use the Kennedy Space Center as a resource to inspire sixth grade students to excel in math and science. The trip will allow teachers to reinforce what they’ve been teaching in the classroom and also show students where it all happened.
“We hope that by getting students involved in math and science activities at the KSC, they will be inspired to make a career out of these fields in the future – maybe even by becoming an astronaut,” says Michelle Peters, Director of The Endeavour Academy.
Each day during the weeklong event, 1100 students and 110 teachers and chaperones will participate in activities from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include viewing the new Space Station 3D film on a six-story IMAX screen, attending hands-on, audience participation briefings with astronauts and NASA Education leaders, taking a tour of the KSCVC and seeing the largest rocket ever launched. |
